About the Rhode Island Center for School Leadership

The Advisory Board for the Rhode Island Center for School Leadership is comprised of 17 Rhode Island Leadership organizations and is in its tenth year of providing a variety of comprehensive professional development services for school leaders. Because school leaders have unique and overlapping professional development needs, and these needs are usually met in fragmented ways by individual professional organizations and higher education, the RICSL brings school leaders together for collaborative professional development based on Rhode Island’s Quality Standards for Professional Development. Funding for programs and delivery of services comes from a variety of sources within the school leadership community.

Historically, the Rhode Island Center for School Leadership has provided a means for districts/schools, throughout the state, who share mutual goals to join together for training and professional development. Over the last several years, RICSL provided the means for over 17 districts, whereby over 600 education leaders, including teacher leaders, were intensely involved in a training process to assist them in leading their schools in the pursuit for the improvement of the instructional process.

Over the last two years, The Rhode Island Center for School Leadership (RICSL) in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), have focused, together, on the goal of building a Rhode Island Cohesive Leadership System. This partnership has resulted in the development and approval of the Standards for Educational Leaders in Rhode Island and ongoing work relative to supporting the Standards and developing a Cohesive Leadership System.

The Rhode Island Center for School Leadership is:

  • Committed to continue the development and delivery of collaborative and innovative professional for school leaders.
  • Committed to continuing the development of lasting associations and partnerships with other professional organizations that will focus all school leaders on creating the best possible schools for all of Rhode Island’s children.
  • Committed to continue to seek ideas and suggestions from our constituencies on an ongoing basis.
